Artichoke Hearts Gratin Recipe

This broiled artichoke hearts gratin recipe makes for a great appetizer. This can be served with just some fresh lemon, but a nice aioli would also be a delicious choice. If you already have your appetizer menu down, try this as a side dish to that holiday roast.

Makes 24 Halves Artichoke Hearts Gratin

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes


  • 12 canned artichoke hearts (preferably with stems attached), drained, cut in half
  • salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • lemon as needed


Preheat the broiler on the highest setting.

Place the artichoke hearts, cut side up, on a foiled, lightly-oiled, baking sheet. Season with salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste. Sprinkle over the breadcrumbs, then the cheese, then drizzle with olive oil.

Broil about 6 inches under the heat for 7-8 minutes, or until well browned. Serve warm or room temperature.
