Nothing fancy here, just a delicious, traditional cornbread dressing (also know as cornbread stuffing if used inside that holiday turkey). You can alter this basic dressing in many ways, such as adding sausage, peppers, or green onions.

Makes 8 Servings of Basic Cornbread Dressing

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 (9-inch) pan cornbread, crumbled
  • 8 slices white bread, lightly toasted, broken into small pieces
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten

Preparation:

In a sauté pan over medium heat, melt the butter; add the onions, and sauté until the onions are soft. Add the garlic, and sauté for another minute, then remove from heat. Add the crumbled cornbread and white bread to a large bowl. Add the onions, broth, and the rest of the ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

Spoon into a buttered baking dish, and bake at 350 degree F for 40 minutes. Cover with foil if the top begins to get to browned. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
