This California Asian-style barbecue sauce recipe combines some classic American barbecue sauce ingredients, with a few traditional Asian flavors, for a great all-purpose sauce.

Makes about 3 Cups

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup minced green onions
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Preparation:

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan, bring to a low simmer, and turn off heat. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.
