This St. Louis-style barbecue sauce recipe is similar to the more popular Kansas City barbecue sauce, but it is a bit less sweet, and a little tangier. This is a delicious barbecue sauce recipe to use on baby back ribs or grilled chicken.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups ketchup

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup finely minced onion

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 cup brown mustard

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer, stirring, on low heat for 20 minutes.

  3. Let cool to room temperature.

  4. Use as desired.

This recipe can be used as a basting sauce toward the end of cooking or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.
