This St Louis-style barbecue sauce recipe is similar to the more popular Kansas City barbecue sauce, but is a bit less sweet, and a little tangier. This is a delicious barbecue sauce recipe to use on baby back ribs, or grilled chicken.

Makes 4 Cups St. Louis-Style Barbecue Sauce

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup finely minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced fine
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown mustard
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp hot sauce

Preparation:

Whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer, stirring, on low heat for 20 minutes. Let cool to room temperature. May be used as a basting sauce towards the end of cooking, or brushed on after barbecuing, with additional sauce served on the side.
