This garlic ginger salmon recipe is a great example of how Asian flavors really enhance this fish. If you're looking for a quick, easy, and delicious salmon recipe, give this a try.

Makes 2 Servings of Garlic Ginger Basil Salmon

  • 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp hot chili sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp chopped basil
  • 2 (six-ounce) center-cut salmon fillets
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Add all the ingredients, except the salmon and oil, into a small bowl, and mix to combine. Season both sides of the salmon with salt.

Add the vegetable oil to a non-stick skillet, and preheat on medium-high flame. When hot, cook the salmon for about 4 minutes per side. For the last minute of cooking, pour the sauce into the pan. The sauce will thicken, and as it does spoon over the salmon to glaze. Turn off the heat, transfer the salmon to a plate, and drizzle over the thickened sauce.

Made this recipe tonight, and found the amount of water called for is too much. I would reduce it to 1 tbl. the next time I make it, and would also cut back the amount of rice vinegar to 2 tbl. I substituted the sugar for 1 tbl. of Mrs. Butterworth's sugar free maple syrup (low carb diet) and omitted the basil....it just doesn't belong in this recipe in my opinion. I used Siracha for the hot sauce. I basted the salmon with the sauce prior to and during cooking, and also used some of the sauce in the shirataki noodles i made as a side dish - it gave them an excellent flavor!
