Baked Fresh Cherry Custard Recipe

This simple and delicious baked cherry custard is inspired by the famous French dessert clafouti. The dark, sweet cherries baked simply in a creamy, eggy batter produces a comforting dessert everyone will love. Serve this baked cherry custard as is, or with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Makes 8 Portions of Baked Fresh Cherry Custard

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 12 oz pitted fresh cherries, about a pint
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Preparation:

Pour the cherries into a buttered 2-quart baking dish. Whisk the remaining ingredients in a bowl to form a light, thin batter. Pour over the cherries and place in a preheated 350 degree F. oven for 45 minutes, or until cherry custard is browned and puffed around the edges, and the center is set. Allow to cool to warm or room temperature before serving.
